I found a link to a blog through the The Crafty Crow this morning that lays out a plan to get 20 crafts out of just $10 worth of supplies! Of course, I immediately thought of my friend Rachel, over at Smother of One and her experiment with freezing toys in ice for her son to chip out...and I knew she would love this!
Check it out - 20 Toddler Crafts for Less Than $10! (And some alternatives for using the same crafts for older children.)
I would love to see pictures/links to blog posts if anyone tries this! I'm sure we'll find some way to use the suggestions for older kids for Spawn on a rainy day, too! I was thinking of making the I Spy-type rice bottle with the toys in it for Spawn to find and write all the names of the toys inside to practice his spelling. ;)
I have tons of pictures from the weekend - The 155th Bloomsburg Fair and Spawn enjoying the fruits of his labors yesterday. More to come later today!

Where Did Autumn Go? - Project 365: Day 18
Seriously...what happened? We were wearing shorts, switched to jeans this week, and now it's going to be cold enough to snow tonight! What the heck?
Our poor worm farm hasn't been winterized yet (because it's the beginning of flippin' October!) and there's no room in the shed for it yet. I'm afraid for the few poor critters that are left. ('course, their buddies were sold off as bait to fishermen, so maybe they like their chances in the black worm farm tote. ;)) CS Dad swears there's enough heat in their compost to keep them safe and they are sheltered well under the trees in the front of the house, so we'll keep the worms in our prayers tonight. ;)
I was going out to move them closer to the house and snapped off a handful of pictures when I got a message I've never seen before on my camera - "Memory Card Full". :o Wow. Guess it's time to back up the 2 gig card full of September pix to CS Dad's portable harddrive tonight!
We're off to the Bloomsburg Fair tomorrow, so expect a super-photo-laden-trip-report come Sunday morning after we recover from 20 different foods on a stick and deep-fried hunks of cheese. =D
Notes for the weekend: This is the final weekend of Read Banned Books Week. If you do nothing else this weekend due to the chilly weather, take a minute to peruse the list at the ALA's website: Read Banned Books Week, and choose at least one book to read with or without your kids and celebrate the freedom that you have every day to read whatever you want without restriction - no matter what any well-intentioned group has tried to do to remove that book from your library or your child's school library to 'protect' you or them from it. ;) I mean, really? 'Where The Wild Things Are'? 'Fahrenheit 451'?!?! Does no one see the irony there?!
A final thought from Supreme Court Justice William O. Douglas: "Restriction of free thought and free speech is the most dangerous of all subversions. It is the one un-American act that could most easily defeat us."

A Shout-out to My Awesome Friend, Eileen!
She tweaked, pushed, pulled, and worked a miracle to put that shiney new header together up top for my blog!
If you have a minute, you should check out her awesome (and far more organized/informative) blog at http://www.thesublurbs.com/.

CS Mom Craftiness: Cereal Box Ghosts: Step 2 - Project 365: Day 17
Perhaps some of you will recall that we began one of our many fall projects last week: http://cyberschoolmomdiaries.blogspot.com/2009/09/four-things-project-365-day-11.html
Those ghosts were initially inspired by some leftover cereal boxes, white paint from last year's art kit, and this Halloween bento that I found online a while back:
Today, in a desperate attempt to keep Spawn occupied inside during this chilly cold snap on the first day of October, I broke out the Cereal Box Ghosts to work on Step 2: Adding Character(s). We split them up into 2 piles - 6 ghosts for each of us. I got out a box of Sharpies and Spawn got out those scented Mr. Sketch markers he'd been itching to get his hands on. His ghosts definitely smell better than mine. ;)
Spawn's Ghosts:
My Ghosts:
I haven't yet decided what Step 3 will be. Probably stringing them up on some crazy thing in the kitchen. ;)
